Savannah College of Art & Design Gulfstream Center

completed: 2004
location: Savannah, Georgia

The 40,000 square foot Gulfstream Center for Design was a renovation of an existing industrial warehouse that Dawson Architects converted into a state of the art facility for SCAD's Product Design and Furniture Design programs. The project was completed in less than 10 months from the beginning of design. The majority of the facility is used to house metal and wood fabrication shops as well as other spaces required for designing and constructing everything from hand crafted furniture to working automobiles. Other key spaces include classrooms, computer labs, an equipment lab, a welding and paint shop as well as material storage areas. In addition, an open mezzanine level was added to house faculty offices and working space for program administrative staff.
