The 2008 HGTV Green Home combines the beauty of Southern architecture with the latest sustainability advances in building technology. The house was the first home in South Carolina certified by the US Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Homes program as Gold certified. The home is based on a traditional Southern style with clean, transitional detailing to create a timeless elegance. The home includes solar panels, a rainwater catchment cistern, high efficiency mechanical and water systems, low power consumption lighting, low-VOC materials and numerous other sustainability features.
